HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Happy Halloween everyone hopefully you have a great and safe day and when I was trying to come up with the best song to celebrate today I had to dig deep and go to a dark place people.

I mean I really had to ask myself what's the scariest most heavy and haunting tune I could possibly think of and it hit me.........Simon and Garfunkel.........OK I guess I'll attempt to explain.

"Hello Darkness my old friend, I've come to talk to you again," it's a call to the deepest darkest things we all go through people and here we have two folk rock deities looking that darkness straight in the fucking eye and saying...hey what's up and that's fucking heavy people this song is a hushed execution of some strong lyrics that just demand to be screamed and built up to this epic crescendo but they're not instead we have this calm folk tune that just keeps you on edge as it also manages to be one bad ass tune that seemed like the perfect accompaniment to tonight.

Yes this may be an odd assessment but just take a second to really sit back and just listen won't you......to the sound.....OF SILENCE!

Happy Halloween

Song of the Day 10/31/14

Hmmm tomorrow's Halloween and Today's tune get's the date of the harvest night the time of year where our inner ghoul comes out to haunt those around us and score some free candy from strangers, yes people it's the most wonderful time of the year and I don't necessarily have an exact plan per say maybe aside from getting my drink on or something of that nature, but until then I figure I could post a bad ass little festive themed tune for everyone to enjoy on the hallows eve in the form of this trippy kind of psychedelic 60's Sgt. Peppers sounding Pink Floyd tune that also happens to be both wonderfully creepy in tone and have my name in it which is obviously the biggest win win people....

Tuesday Two-Fer

SO if you have followed this blog for the 4+ years it's been a thing you should know I FUCKING LOVE HALLOWEEN TUNES and like I've written about a few times I have this love for the song of the same name courtesy of the all mighty godfathers of hardcore punk themselves The Misfits and since Tuesday's my covers day normally and Halloween is Friday I could dust off this tune for yet another covering courtesy of a little ol punk group AFI....

Halloween-Misfits(1981) & AFI (1999)

So I was combing my CD collection and came across my copy of All Hallows EP by AFI and forgetting it's 13 minute run time was less than my trip to work I decided to take it and give it a listen and was reminded that they sound a lot like a Gothy Offsprings but that's irrelevant because this CD has their cover of Halloween which is about as faithful a cover you're going to get when you listen to it minus the odd creepy noise at the end I never much cared for but beyond that it's an honest cover that's pretty damn good.

Now if you read the first link above you know I find this song to be a classic so no matter how hard I try nobody's going to beat the Misfits it's just too damn good a track and since I've expressed this for a few years now I'm just going to fucking blast this bitch as loud as I can in celebration folks...

Song of the Day 10/28/14

So with Halloween being this Friday people it's time to start getting the appropriate songs ready and in the process I noticed one Anthony Vincent AKA the 10 second songs guy has recently decided to bust out another 20 styles video in the form of this ode to Thriller which isn't as good as the ones before it but the range of acts covered is nice and the Oingo Boingo section made me smile so here's a good way to kick off a ghoulish week....

Song of the Day 10/25/14

So I was tra-la-laing around and recently came across this little cover uploaded about a week ago by one Casi Joy for a cover she'd done of the song Stay With Me by Sam Smith and in all honesty it's pretty bad ass people and if you liked the original I'm sure this stripped down simplified version should sit right.

Also on a lesser note she also recently uploaded some Taylor Swift cover on her Youtube channel for fans of her.

Song of the Day 10/23/14

So this co-worker of mine enjoy's blasting all these emo records during work and in the process of reliving the 8th grade angst I can't help but looking back and yes I know that's what Thursday's are for but you know what it's my blog and I'll write what I want to.

In the string of terrible but amusing tunes that was coming on I was reminded of probably the poster child of angsty I hate my parents and want to go end my life or start a scene rock and roll that was the all mighty Hawthorne Heights who admittedly could craft a decent song or two and pulled the image off really well but even then I couldn't completely get into this stuff mostly because I was too dark to look like a pussified goth and kind of had too much of a fondness for older alternative music with actual substance to really get into the bitch fits and temper tantrums that were a lot of these bands.

Although all gripes and shit talking aside there are still some damn catchy tunes from that time with today's selection being one of them and while it'd of made more sense to post Ohio is for lovers I kind of still find this one to seemingly try to have a bit more substance to it and also it's video is fucking hilarious because they'll probably never sell out arena's this sized again on their own.....but maybe an all emo power tour for my generation........scratch that you read nothing people now excuse me while I go make some phone calls.

Song of the Day 10/22/14

So apparently BBC 1 have decided to Reimagine the soundtrack to the movie Drive by having a host of artist release new songs.....and amongst those artist are CHVRCHES, The 1975, and the Neighbourhood which is all good in my book especially if the rest are as good as this new groove from CHVRCHES get away.

This is one synth heavy new wavey groove of a track with a slight dark tone to it and a groove that demands you get to moving across that dance floor which is all good in my book people because after a couple of listens this song's still pretty bad ass and feels like it'd of fit in well with The Bones of What you Believe which isn't a bad thing considering that records pretty damn great.

I'm interested to see if they can continue to put out songs as strong as this on the next LP whenever that get's announced....

NEW SMASHING PUMPKINS SINGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So...it's official people the hype train is going to start roaring because the new Smashing Pumpkins single has been officially released from their upcoming Monuments to an Elegy album and I'm giving it a listen via a link from Alternative Nation aaaaaaaand it's calm....

Not going to lie I haven't been keeping up on anything involving this new album because I kind of want to just dive into it but after listening to this very straightforward number and it's fairly repetitive nature coupled with it's heavy acoustics I find it to have all the qualities of a Smashing Pumpkins tune that I find enjoyable while also seemingly standing up as a massive improvement on the material recorded during their Filmore residency shows which is an odd thing to bring up but compared to their last album if this one is a nice blend of poppy acoustic numbers and rockers then I'm sure I'll listen to the album more than the last one....

here's a link to alternative nation to hear the track

A Weekend Question

So since I now have today off I figure I now have the time to come up with a song of the day.......well....uhm.....ok I got nothing people but there is a thought that came to mind today while I was doing my driving and listening to Americana by the Offspring and it's how I find it interesting how the song The Kids Aren't Alright has been the most or one of the most played songs by them even after You're Gonna Go Far Kid has managed to get so many rotations this dark little number about wasted youth going to bad places has managed to still remain one of their most familiar.

Now with that in mind I'm curious why do you guy's think that is? What's your opinion on this song? Just comment below or on the Facebook Page and tell me what you think but until then enjoy your weekend people...

Song of the Day 10/17/14

So apparently as they try to get the hype train a rolling for their new record on the horizon The Foo Fighters have been doing a series of covers on The Late Show with David Letterman and one friend of mine told me to and i quote, "get on that shit," and a few day's later I actually remembered to cover this cover in the form of War Pigs featuring Zac Brown.

In all honesty it's pretty bad ass I can't lie there and Zac Brown seems to really be into it but once the uniqueness of it all kind of wears away I can't find a whole lot to be excited over really it's a solid cover that I'm sure would blow minds to see live and you know what fuck it get rocking people...

Song of the Day 10/15/14

So I'm still at a lack of too may things to really fill out the schedule of events I've made for myself but I figured if I'm going to be this way I could at least post a bad ass cover for today and who better then the all mighty PUSA!

Yes one of my personal favorite overlooked alternative acts of the 90's with their blend of humor and bad ass guitar heavy alternative music here they are covering the classic that is Video Killed the Radio Star in such spectacular fashion that it's probably the reason I own a copy of the Wedding Singer Soundtrack....

Song of the Day 10/14/14

I was at a thrift store a couple of day's ago and I came across a copy of Americana by the Offspring for $2 so I decided to pick it up because I've been listening to quite a bit of them for the past few day's and thought why the hell not and upon giving the album a full listen I realized it's really freaking good and amongst many decent tunes one that stuck out was, "She's Got Issues."

It's kind of like a retelling of Self Esteem in that it's some twisted relationship tune about some crazy chick who has more problems then I think Holland and company really care to deal with and it's cheeky sensibilities and what not are fairly typical when you look at most of their output at that time but it's still a fun and charming song none-the-less that probably strikes closer to home for most of us then we'd care to admit, also it's video has a young Zooey Deschanel which is quite funny to watch....

Song of the Day 10/11/14

So in the string of new singles getting released every day and the host of 90's alternative rock acts doing their best to throw their hat into the ring Bush are back people.....Yeah Bush you know those guy's that did that Glycerine song that still get's some decent radio play to this day and made one classic of a debut in the form of one 16 Stone which admittedly wasn't the most original album of all time and will never be held as highly as Stone Temple Pilots first record which honestly was as much a time and place of a record with plenty of grungy alt rockers that weren't too different from what you'd expect from rock at that time, but that's irrelevant because we're talking about Post Grunge's finest here RIGHT?!?!?!?

Ok let's be real here their last attempt at a comeback single admittedly came off as a kind of semi piss poor Science of things B-side sounding tune that I personally have grown some fondness for even if it's honestly just barely sub par compared to the stuff they put out on an album that barely was as decent as their first and leaps and bounds above Razorblade Suitcase. Even with that the last album also yielded The Sound of Winter which just completely made me lose interest in them.

Fast forward to today and this newest offering from them, "The Only Way Out," which let's be fucking real is a Post Grunge tune through and through and instead of sounding like a B-side of an album that was a decent step in the right direction this one feels like Golden State Era Bush through and through which is not a very good thing, but even in it's generic post grungy Bush imitating Bush sound it's honestly grown a tiny bit on me and while it's leaps and bounds away from what the best they had to offer it's honestly a stronger tune then anything Gavin Rossdale did as a solo artist.

Can this group eventually get their footing back? Potentially but until that day I guess we could just always throw on a copy of 16 Stone but even so this song's honestly not too bad...

Song of the Day 10/10/14

So there's a song called Habits by one Tove Lo that's managed to actually become a top 10 hit on the billboard hit which is interesting because it's amusing lyrics of going to sex clubs and binging on twinkies amongst other vices as a result of a bad break-up is something that's not too common but this songs kind of darker delivery and fish-eyed point of view video with one Tove Lo making out with other girls and crying in a bathroom stall amounts to a tune that's grown on me since I first heard it and find it getting better....

Song of the Day 10/9/14

So I've been looking around at a variety of songs for various idea's and what-not and will periodically find myself listening to a couple of tunes here and there but last night as I'm having a few drinks and just kind of chilling and found myself listening to a variety of songs including this odd little pop number courtesy of that chick in that damn Fancy song.

Charli XCX she's an alright looking little bratty sounding singer with a penchant for trying to be some boss ass bitch with her exlimations of, "I don't wanna go to school, I just wanna break the rules," and her knack for getting some trashy outfit in the video while doing some Willow Smith hair waving over what's legitimetly one groovy fucking groove with it's heavy use of guitars and this kind of odd early 90's trying to sound retro keyboard grooves you have a tune that crawls into your head and leaves you wondering why in the fuck am I listening to this...then you give it one more spin.

Song of the day 10/8/14

So I'm going to eschew the regular week in favor of actually giving a song of the day today because there's this fun little tune by one MisterWives called Reflections that I've just been rotating like crazy for the past couple of day's and I'm pretty sure I can't not tell you guy's about it by this point.

I remember seeing these guy's play this song when they opened for Bleachers and it was the most fun I've seen a crowd have in quite some time but I was slightly drunk and preoccupied with other things so I didn't give it the proper attention it really deserved because one this bands actually pretty damn good live and two their lead singers a fucking babe.

All shallow observations aside this song's a kind of pop tinged alternative rocker that's just all full throat-ed chorus' and danceable grooves that just make you both want to move and blast this bright summery tune at full volume people. It's one of the funnest tunes I've heard in quite a while and I'm a bit dissapointed that I didn't' really notice it earlier.

Song of the Day 10/7/14

So when I get drunk I'll occasionally find myself listening to a lot of rock music in Spanish and I'm pretty sure that has to do with my co-workers playing a lot of that stuff all day at work and the fact that some of these songs are catchy as fuck even if I have no idea what they're saying and that's the case with today's pick.

Caramelos De Cianuro they're some rock band that's been doing this since about 1996 or something like that and I remember this song coming on Pandora once and thinking HOLY SHIT this kicks ass....sometimes it doesn't take much thought beyond that people so let's have fun and listen to this trippy little jam.

Throwback Thursday

So I've been trying to brainstorm an idea of something to write about and in all honesty I got nothing but I was listening to this very pop heavy playlist on my Spotify and I was listening to Pentatonix doing some Sam Smith melody of tunes and it took me back to when i was in choir in high school which is both kind of nerdy to admit and surprising to many.

I don't know I've dug how these guy's mesh together songs and do it all acapella and this is one of the more interestingly good ones so give it a listen and tell me what you think...
