The Mother We Share-CHVRCHES

If there was ever a time frame when 96.5 the Buzz truly defined me it was this year and looking back at that particular year end list it's like basically letting the machine dictate my taste and while there's a few odd ball choices here and there are plenty of tracks that are me doing exactly what they wanted, but even with that in mind this list holds a special place for me because even with that knowledge there's some genuinely great stuff on there and I really do legitimately still have a big adoration for this tune especially considering where this band went since then.

This song is really a sign of things to come because over the past couple of years the whole let's rip off Depeche Mode and New Order style really seems to have picked up steam and a host of new wave inspired tones are really starting to become a thing to the detest of some rock journalist and the joy and elation of some listeners I'm not a hundred percent sure my stance considering I like these things but at the same time it is a tone that could let more pop in than I'd care to listen to for any reason.

I like this band but I'm over the honeymoon phase and it was the day after one of their show's the following year that I had the worst day of my life so it's hard to look back on them too fondly or listen to a lot of music from this or the following year very fondly and while 2013-15 where some of the most involved and consistently strong year end list in retrospect they also happen to be soundtrack to a guy trying to cover up trauma.

The Bones of What You Believe-CHVRCHES (2013)

In all honesty in the 5 years since I started writing song of the day I’d honestly have to say this is probably the most solidly strong debut album I’ve heard since starting this and it’s really quite interesting to think about because it’s the pure solid New Wave sound with plenty of polished strongly sang tunes and Lauren Mayberry’s kind of pixy tones that kind of lead me to just get utterly absorbed into an album that’s really a lot like Depeche Mode but more modernized and with even less organic instrumentation.

I really do love this album quite a bit people and the fact that the songs kind of range from slightly dark dance tracks to just complete bangers gives you a good variety pack to kind of enjoy no matter what your mindset is and it really is an album that you find yourself coming back to again and again to only remind yourself just how fucking good it really is and even now trying my best to put into words just what’s so good about it I’m just reminded of the times and places I’ve gone and had been with each song good and bad it’s all something that really gets me thinking.

Also on a lesser note these guy’s put on an amazing show and Lauren Mayberry is a Pixy voiced goddess amongst women.

This may be last choice in my 5 years and 5 albums but stay tuned Sunday for a special post regarding the 5^th year anniversary but until then it’s been a pretty bad ass 5 years and this album is just another example of what it’s resulted in.

12. CHVRCHES-Get Away

So I was almost not going to have a song by this band on this year’s list because The Bones of What You Believe came out last year and they topped that list with the wonderful Mother We Share which probably was more effective this year considering I got to see them live and more so fell in love with this band and then they managed to squeeze out this tune late this year.

It’s a very synth heavy kind of dark Depeche Mode-esque feeling tune that seems like it’d of fit perfectly fine on The Bones of What you Believe which is perfectly fine for me because this bands bread and butter seem to be finely crafted danceable numbers that just leave bodies a moving and this song is all of that and then some.

So apparently VH1 did some Live showcasing of promising young talent they advertise during the morning hours and they decided to have Bleachers and the beautiful and talented Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES perform Fleetwood Macs Go Your Own Way and in all honesty the performance is very solid and they both could do some great things together just I'm not entirely sure if this was the proper venue because the sound volume is all off and muted and Mayberry's vocals are even more affected by the muted nature.

All complaints aside it's pretty freaking sweet to see these two artist together and maybe they can make an original piece that better suits them both vocally...

Song of the Day 10/22/14

So apparently BBC 1 have decided to Reimagine the soundtrack to the movie Drive by having a host of artist release new songs.....and amongst those artist are CHVRCHES, The 1975, and the Neighbourhood which is all good in my book especially if the rest are as good as this new groove from CHVRCHES get away.

This is one synth heavy new wavey groove of a track with a slight dark tone to it and a groove that demands you get to moving across that dance floor which is all good in my book people because after a couple of listens this song's still pretty bad ass and feels like it'd of fit in well with The Bones of What you Believe which isn't a bad thing considering that records pretty damn great.

I'm interested to see if they can continue to put out songs as strong as this on the next LP whenever that get's announced....

Friday's Finest

So I’ve been all over the place this week…just giving you fair warning because this weeks list should be interesting…

1. Puto-Molotov

So I work with a bunch of characters and one of my co-workers decided to tell me about this raunchy little semi-homophobic rocker that’s honestly one of the most amusingly ridiculous tunes I’ve heard in a while and it’s the pure unadulterated rocking that kind of reminds me of being a young angry white boy…that for some reason is singing along to a Spanish rock song….don’t judge.

2. Let Me give the world to you-The Smashing Pumpkins

So sadly enough they took down the official version from the adore box set which brings a massive tear to my eyes because it’s SO FUCKING GOOD! But I guess the one from Machina 2 should suffice for now because this song’s such a hidden gem.

3.Clavado En Un Bar-Mana

So yet another random Spanish song that I’ve heard because of listening to some odd ass radio station son Pandora from an album I’m more familiar with having an interesting CD cover that’s actually quite a catchy little rocker that has a kind of mid 90’s alternative rocker feel to it that is probably the reason it’s stuck out compared to what’s honestly a series of songs that I hear every day that I don’t know what’s being said but I find to be very catchy.

4. Gun-Chvrches

So I’ve been closing all week and during one particularly long night I found myself daydreaming about Lauren Mayberry and found myself eventually listening to The Bones of What You Believe as I was going to bed that night…and this song made me jump up and start dancing….again DON’T JUDGE PEOPLE!!!

5. Lady Madonna-The Beatles

I remember watching a video a long time ago about songs that sound like other songs and in the list it pointed out how Sublimes What I got sounds a lot like this little Beatles Gem…and if you listen to it that way it kind of does….weird.
