Song of the Day 11/27/14

So Take me to Church is a top 10 hit and that's kind of crazy but even so I guess it's deserved but after noticing this I decided to actually listen to the album and realized that this guy is a lot like Jeff Buckley with his knack for real rockers that are partly bluesy with a little gospel thrown in just to keep his vocals interesting and while Take Me To Church is most certainly an epic piece I'd honestly have to say that his more straightforward Jeff Buckley sounding numbers are probably the better of his material and never is that more present and surprisingly solid as Jackie and Wilson.

This song is a very Bluesy number that seems like it could be playing in any bar amongst tunes by Stevie Ray Vaughan or George Thorogood with it's very distinct rift and mentions of people singing rhythm and blues it sounds like it's older than it actually is without coming off as forced or jaded like a lot of other artist who do throwback tinged tunes.

While I'll admit this guy's material at times seems too much like Jeff Buckley I do honestly find him to be a surprisingly good talent that has some surprisingly bad ass tunes..

Song of the Day 11/26/14

Man the years just flying by people and pretty soon I'll be posting the best songs of the year but I'll announce more on Thanksgiving if I can remember but until then I'm just kind of skating by these songs of the day for you guy's and there wasn't a whole lot that I could immediately remember to write about for this but I've been watching a bunch of random videos about the best songs of certain genre's, time periods, and individual artist and one of the bands that got some mention and even their own list was The Queens of the Stone Age.

Not going to lie this bands responsible for some bad ass tracks but I've never been able to just really get into them for whatever reason beyond maybe the fact that I've heard No One Knows about a half a million fucking times but even so it doesn't make the really good songs they've done any less better and I think Go With The Flow is a good example of what I like from this group. It's a fast paced rocker that pounds and moves at an accelerated pace and doesn't let up which is fucking awesome really and even here 12 years later it's still as refreshingly good now as it was when I was watching it on Fuse TV in middle school....

DECEMBER 9TH GET HERE ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO like I've noted for the last few tracks Billy Corgan and Company are keeping the dream alive and the hype train real people and they've decided to release the newest cut Drum+Fife which ironically enough has the heaviest and most prominent kind of marching drumming out of any of the tracks heard so far and it also has this weird kind of pan flute thing at parts which kind of helps because it draws you into a track that ends up being rather solid.

This isn't the second coming of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness people but this albums really taking shape to be some of the more consistent material Corgan has made since he started the Teargarden project and I for one am just happy to not only see him get the Pumpkins train a rollin' but to hear good music while he's at it....

Song of the Day 11/21/14

So in all honesty I don't really listen to much rap music mostly because it's something that just doesn't really stick as well with me as other genre's but even so I do occasionally hear a jam or two that is just to damn good to really deny and today's one of those tunes that I can't help but find to be just to bad ass no matter what level of sobriety I am at that very moment so let's not bullshit to much and get ready for that party this weekend....

Song of the Day 11/20/14

So I've been listening to some odd shit here and there which has lead to me not really being too sure what to write about when it comes to songs of the day but I was listening to the radio and got reminded of this trippy little number from BANKS called, "Beggin For Thread," and upon watching what was one odd little orgy of a music video and realizing the chick that sings this song is rather attractive I figure this would be a good track to highlight.

This song is a very kind of semi-sensual affiar that's kind of dark in tone and lyrically a little dark and it's kind of low monotonous tone really seems to give it the ability to stand out when you hear it on the radio...

Song of the Day 11/18/14

So the Smashing Pumpkins are leaking yet more new music from their upcoming Monuments to an Elegy effort and today's cut is a very VERY synth heavy rocker in the form of Tiberius which is a cut that's a very driving kind of swirling piece of music that moves from a kind of oddly synthesizer heavy intro into some very rift rocking verses and a slight piano break in the middle to only rock on till the end before seemingly just coming to an abrupt end and making you wonder how they didn't drag this tune out.

It's a solid number and the fact that it's not to long will probably help it in the long run because while I don't mind longer Pumpkins tunes I can get where Corgans semi-repetative lyrical nature is starting to seemingly not work to well in his favor and the odd production on this tune at lest at the beginning is something that makes it feel like one of the other cuts from their last effort.

I'm sure to be interested come December 9th but there are points where I'm wondering where the Kick ass rockers are...

Happy Friday Folks

So apparently VH1 did some Live showcasing of promising young talent they advertise during the morning hours and they decided to have Bleachers and the beautiful and talented Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES perform Fleetwood Macs Go Your Own Way and in all honesty the performance is very solid and they both could do some great things together just I'm not entirely sure if this was the proper venue because the sound volume is all off and muted and Mayberry's vocals are even more affected by the muted nature.

All complaints aside it's pretty freaking sweet to see these two artist together and maybe they can make an original piece that better suits them both vocally...

Here's a link to the website since they don't want to let me embed that stuff.

Song of the Day 11/13/14

You know I really REALLY dislike Fallout Boy post From Under the Cork Tree and even to this day I still strongly stand by that statement but even as their fall from grace was occurring they still seemed to manage to crank out a catchy tune or two and in this instance I managed to recall a tune that was actually a lot better then I remember simply because of its chorus.

I'm Like a Lawyer The Way I'm Aways Trying to get you off(Me and You) it's that patented overly long title for what's ultimately a very tender sounding alternative rock number by a group of guy's that's core audience was and still is teenage girls and people with an affinity for music about hating their parents and this is one of the more genuinely charming songs they've done.

Song of the Day 11/11/14

So I've been going through a series of songs and figuring later articles and what not so when it comes time to write a song of the day I'm often stumped really but every once in a blue moon I'll look at the past songs I spend my weekend listening to and when I do there's usually a decent amount of interesting tunes but there was one song that I recalled listening to that is actually a lot better then I anticipated.

Millions it's one of many new cuts from Gerard Way's solo effort and in all honesty it's actually quite interesting to see where this former My Chemical Romance frontman is going musically and while I do enjoy the kind of overly 70's glam rock style of the previous single No Shows and how it's kind of the best blend of dirty 70's guitars and Way's kind of wanna be proto-punk vocals it's too hard to listen to that song and not think he's dick riding a Gary Glitter meets Ziggy Stardust Bowie sound with it.

On the contrary Millions is just a kind of old school sounding alternative rocker that has a kind of Kings of Leon sounding intro and is sang in such a style that reminds me of a group like the Pillows or Surfer Blood but there's also a slightly subtle but straight forward approach in Way's vocal delivery that gives this song a more charming quality then I can recall hearing from him in quite some time and it's really nice to hear. This songs a very charming affair that I seem to enjoy more then I honestly thought I ever would which is always a good thing.

Song of the Day 11/8/14

So I'm not going to lie I have been aware of who TV on the Radio are but I've never heard any of their songs up until my local alternative radio station decided to start rotating their new single Happy Idiot so there's not a whole lot I can say aside from the fact that this song's driving rhythm and stark lyrical content are actually quite appealing to me and I find this song to be a lot catchier and catchier after multiple listenings and it being my day off I figure chilling out to this number is a good way to end the week of song of the day's....

Song of the Day 11/7/14

So in-between random Facebook jumping and other shenanigans to waste time and rush together things I was thinking to myself about some Sounds familiar kind of tunes and I remember writing one a while ago and I found it which reminded me of another song it reminded me of and while I may expand upon that a little later I think I'm a let you guy's just rock out to this bad ass Say Anything tune....

Song of the Day 11/6/14

The Hype is real people the all mighty Smashing Pumpkins have officially dropped their second single from tehir upcoming installment in the Teargarden project Moments to an Elegy in the form of this rocking single One and All.

This song kind of takes the rock that was lacking in Being Beige and cranks that shit up and gives you a very old school sounding rocker that is just what the doctor ordered people this song rocks and I can't wait to hear the rest of the album...

Song of the Day 11/5/14

So there's a few acts coming to my neck of the woods that are actually motivating me to go buy a damn ticket or at the very least get somebody to be kind enough to do so...wink wink...nudge nudge....but all jokes aside i was hyping myself up last night and one of the bands on the bill is one MisterWives and since I missed the majority of their last set I guess i can shoot for this time around and of course in preparation i was listening to their EP Reflections and amongst what was a fairly solid effort there's this song on it called Twisted Tongue that is just way to fucking catchy for it's own damn good.

What we have here is a very upbeat rocker with a chorus that's just begging to be used in a montage or something because it's truly a poppy little number that moves a long at a rapid fire pace and keeps the listener just tapping along and of course it houses some amusingly cheeky lyrics about how the guy she's apparently singing to is an asshole which is always a positive in my book.

This song is just all over fun and I'm interested to see if I can see them play it live....

Song of the Day 11/4/14

Halloween was a semi-uneventful event for me but that's not really all that important because it's a new month and a new week of songs for you guy's so let's quit with all the small talk and get to today's amusing little cut courtesy of Ex Cops.

Black Soap it's a very rocking little cut with one hell of a chorus that is slightly reminiscent of an act like Sonic Youth with it's very strong early alternative sound and the fact that the verses partway through introduce a male vocalist who's partly deep but not trying to be much a singer.

Overall this song is a great alternative rock cut that I find to get better and  better every listening...
