Song of the Day 1/24/19

You know I'm really mad that these guy's became such corporate sellouts because that first album was a fucking banger and their second record still holds as something I more appreciate rather than enjoy in retrospect but that's irrelevant because even so there's one track they did that lead to the eventual sellout that I conveniently still remember as something special.

Out of My League-Fitz and the Tantrums

So I had to look back at my older post to remember just what it was about this track that had any relevance for me and looking back it's because this was a bit of a difference maker for this band they went from just being a throwback act to making more modernish indie rock affairs with killer melodies and great vocal harmony courtesy of the immensely talented Noelle Scaggs and this song is a good example of those properties in effect and even after the mass commercialization it's still a solidly great track that I still remember just randomly seeing uploaded onto YouTube at some random ass hour of the night giving a listen and just being blown the fuck away that I just had to make a random shot in the dark post that until I started covering more local acts was the most viewed post on this entire website so I've always had an interesting connection to this tune because it made me think maybe just maybe I may know my shit.

Now that's not so much the case anymore but for a brief moment in time I thought so...

Sam's Top 20 of 2016: #13

13.Fitz and the Tantrums-Complicated

So I can't lie the new album Fitz and the Tantrums put out this year just kind of flew completely over my head and Handclap while being a good track in a live environment is overall an overly commercialized attempt at making another Walker which in and of itself was nothing more than a solid track that got bigger than it ever should have.

Fitz and company in all honesty are best when they're making tracks that aren't trying to be commercial jingles and instead let Noel and Fitz kind of play off each other in either a kind of romantic or playful sense and in all honesty seeing this live is probably what got me to like it so much because I didn't listen to any of the new songs before their set at beach ball this year and this song was the standout from all the new stuff because unlike Roll Out or Hand clap this one isn't trying to be something commercial and kind of like Burn it Down its kind of a very simple track that has Noel and Fitz playing off one another with neither really taking center stage which is kind of nice considering how often they've enjoyed flip flopping tracks over the past few albums.

Sam's Top 20 of 2014: #4

4. Fitz and the Tantrums-Fools Gold

OK in all honesty this song shouldn’t be on this list considering this album came out last year and they made the list with More than just a dream but like the Arctic Monkeys earlier this list an amazingly bad ass tune that made a decent radio impact this year deserves note and when it’s my favorite song on what was one of last year’s best releases you bet your fucking ass that I’m going to put it on this year’s best of list.

The ultimate amalgamation of the classiest act in alternative music it’s like the greatest most epic lost soul track of yesteryear with its larger than life production, its soaring chorus, and instrumentation that sounds like they threw everything in it to make it the largest most epic sounding fucking song you’ve ever heard you have the most confident performance from Fitz and Noel on top of that and it makes the best god damn song this bands done since Money Grabber and dare I say it is actually BETTER!

Yeah I said that and I’ll stick to my guns until they top it but until then I’m a go every embarrassingly sing along people because this shits just TOO GOOD!!!!

Friday's Finest

It’s Friday and you know what that means people it’s time for Fridays finest and rather hten wasting time let’s get straight into this weeks goodness…

1. We Are Done-The Madden Brothers

So I remember a time when Good Charlotte where a thing and to eventually learn from a buddy of mine that the primary members have a new project and are getting radio play was a bit of a shock and upon listening to the tune I was taken back a tiny bit of it’s very pop approach but after a few listens I have to admit it’s chorus is killer and it’s a nicer change of pace from some individuals that I’m more then sure don’t want to be reminded of their former eye-liner clad times..

2.  Take Me To Church-Hozier

So here’s another newer tune that’s starting to get some radio rotation and has one KILLER chorus and a very kind of stark sound with some mild religious or lustful singing depending on who you ask but I don’t have a whole lot to say right now but expect a potential song of the day for this track some time sooner than later..

3.  Fool’s Gold-Fitz and the Tantrums

So the fact that they released probably the best track from More than Just a Dream as a single to radio recently is something that makes me levels of happy that lead me to only hope that this song get’s the much deserved attention it should get because it’s fucking BAD ASS!!!

4. Miracle-Kimbra

All my love and of course you can read a review for the video on this site so…

5. I wanna Get Better-Bleachers
I get to see these guy’s today and it’s going to be awesome..

Sam's 1000th Post SPECTACULAR!!!

I’d like to thank all of you for reading these 500 post here’s to 500 more people.

-Thursday, April 26, 2012

So…it’s been two years since that statement was made and I had my 500th post spectacular people and now I’m on post number 1,000 and there are two things that came to mind 1. I’m surprised I let my laziness make it take 2 years to post 500 more times on this blog and 2. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

I know that was rather inappropriate but you know life’s not really that appropriate when you think about it and just like two years ago I kind of had this odd realization of reaching a fairly large numerical milestone rather suddenly and it’s honestly rather crazy to think of because that’s well over 1000 songs, bands, and topics and since those initial post I’ve gone from just doing song’s of the day’s 7 days a week to expanding to concert, album, and music video reviews along with a myriad of best of list, holiday specials, and even reached the point where I have a weekly schedule of articles which is freaking crazy to think about people.

So here I sit trying to come up with an article proper to kind of capture the craziness of it all and in all honesty I kind of don’t really think there’s much that can be done that hasn’t already been covered on here and I don’t see much a reason to post a Throwback Thursday so I guess I can just thank all of you guy’s for reading and post the song that’s gotten the most views out of any article I’ve posted on this little blog of mine which oddly enough is from February of last year and was the only post I can recall doing in the wee hours of the night after just kind of stumbling upon Fitz and the Tantrums release of the official audio clip for their tune Out of My League where I kind of most literally posted my initial impressions and am amazed that it managed to get read so many times and on a slightly lesser note actually brought this band out of one hit wonderdom which is pretty fucking spectacular…

Also on a lesser note they’ve decided most recently to release my favorite track from that album as their newest radio single in the form of Fools Gold which I’m just going to take credit for now even though I’ve never brought that up at any point in this blog.

Thanks for reading and here’s to 1,000 more people….maybe I can reach it before 5 years from now…

Sam's Top 20 of 2013: #6

6 “Out of My League,” Fitz and the Tantrums

You know there are groups and artist that spend their entire careers being wonderfully obscure, and sometimes the world decides to do something right and gives them a true success and Fitz and the Tantrums are one of those examples of that wonderful occurrence happening and I’m glad to say that they’re known for something more than that group that made Moneygrabber.

Now before I get into it I do have to say that sometimes when compiling these list you’re stuck in a conundrum where you don’t know whether or not to write about the song that brought the most success or the song that you enjoyed most that they actually made this year and while I’d like to highly suggest everybody go out and listen to Fool’s Gold from this album I just had to give this song the nod because without it none of that would have been possible.

Now the thing that set’s this song aside from every other song they’ve made is that rather than being the coolest most retro grooved throwback you’ve heard in a long time they actually made a indie rock song that was completely out of their comfort zone and while it would have backfired for any other group this song actually managed to be quite spectacular which is awesome because here’s a band that I honestly felt have some untapped commercial potential starting to really get a following and the fact that it was the intro to what was quite an awesome album this year only leads me to have to rank it so highly amongst its peers..

Song of the Day 2/10/13

Out of My League-Fitz and the Tantrums

You know ever since my little anniversary post I’ve been listening to Fitz and the Tantrums first album on a pretty steady rotation and it’s still as bad ass now as it was when I first got it, and of course with that in mind I figured why not actually take the time to write about how awesome they are and upon the typing of them into the Youtube search bar I’ve just come across the fact that they seem to have a new single coming out which is for lack of a better term…..FUCKING AWESOME!

Ok I’m going into this with a open mind because let’s be frank you never really want to expect to hear the same thing twice and oh is this something interesting.

Rather then that very throwback sound that hooked me on this bad ass little group we have here a very modern sounding little indie rock tune that has fitz kind of out of place vocals over a very stark kind of echoing rhythm that’s very steady in a lot of ways, but after a second listen it’s pretty cool in a lot of ways albeit a little too much like what’s popular on alternative radio at this moment in time, but also you can’t really blame them for trying to do something a little different.

So in conclusion what we have here is actually a pretty strong bit of new music from a band that sadly might only really be a hidden gem amongst music groups but still a killer chorus with a nice change of sound is something I can’t find any fault with.

Good job Fitz.
