The ongoing rants of one man out to introduce the world to the tunes that inhabit the space inside of that region known as his mind a collection of the songs that have shaped his day, his Song of the Day.
This song is fairly typical in that
it's an angry track with a killer chorus, a beat you can jump,
thrash, and dance to, and a screaming section thrown in to remind you
that AWOLNATION is here and he's going nowhere also this song is
fucking great live.
Also I'd like to take a second to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving from here at Sam's Song of the Day....
I’m late to the party here because this songs a couple of
weeks old now and its’ recently been announced that these guy’s will be one of
the headlining acts of this year’s Buzz Beachball which is actually pretty fucking
cool but I’m not sure if I’ll be seeing them because I kind of don’t want to
spend the money and seem to have a tradition of going every other year but
that’s irrelevant.
Hollow Moon it’s the first single from their upcoming second
studio album a follow up to 2011’s Megalithic Symphony which happened to house
his surprising hit Sail and two of my best of 2012 cuts in, “Not Your Fault,”
and, “Kill Your Heros,” which where some very amusingly angry sounding numbers
that were very scream filled bits of angst.
Hollow Moon as a tune is actually kind of an interesting
tune because it’s seems to instead have a very danceable groove to it like it’s
more inclined to be taken as a dance track with some semi-rapped verses
sprinkled all throughout which kind of would make me weary if it weren’t for
the fact that it’s main chorus is pretty damn catchy and near the end of the
track there’s a small screaming section that feels like it’s there to remind
you that it’s AWOLNATION.
Overall I really do actually find myself enjoying this song
a lot and I think it’s a nice change of pace from the music beforehand because
it’s showing a good bit of versatility in style and that seems to really show
because it’s performing really solidly on the radio now as to whether or not it
becomes the next sail that I can’t say but what I can say is that it’s pretty
damn good and also the whole shooting the video on a camera on a dolly in one shot is pretty cool.
Yeah I’m not going to lie I absolutely dread the song Sail
and it’s empty screaming style and because of that I just completely ignored
this band entirely and what a shame that was because this song is so amazingly
hate filled that I can’t help but wish I’d looked past that one bad tune
earlier.
Like I noted, “Not Your Fault,” is what made me take
interest in this band but this song just blew my mind because I’m not so sure
what it is but it’s an incredibly angry cut filled with some wild imagery of
murder and the grim realities of things to come but in some odd way there’s a
slight ray of hope in its chorus and it’s mentioning of why you need to just
continue keeping on.
Too damn good to ignore for long in some sick and twisted
way I guess this teaches us all not to judge a band by one bad song, because
maybe just maybe they’ll make something so angrily amazing that you can’t help
but sing along.
As we reach the top ten of this list the songs only get more
awesome and as much as I fell in love with this screaming rage fit of a tune I
just couldn’t quite put it above the one’s to come but don’t let that make you
think that I don’t absolutely adore this crazy bit of rage induced awesome.
What we have here is the song that made me realize that as
shitty a tune as I find Sail to be I shouldn’t ever judge a band by one bad
single because unlike that electronic mess of screams this song is pure
unadulterated rage in the form of a very guitar smashing synthesizer headache
enducing tune that’s both a great tune to have a terrible relationship fall
apart to and also make out with a fine someone too.
For being my unapologetic lust enduced tune of the year I’m
glad that I was able to overlook that one bad single to actually give this band
a shot.
