Sam's Top 20 of 2015 #9

#9 Leave a Trace-CHRVCHES

So it's been about 2 years since this little collective of Glasgow's finest topped my year end list and while last years, “Get Away,” was and still is a spectacular cut it only really kind of served as a distraction before they had to make another, “Mother We Share,” and while, “Leave a Trace,” isn't quite  that it's still a spectacular cut none-the-less and an amazing experience to see live.

This song is kind of a very danceably disguised fuck you to all of Lauren Mayberry's critics in many ways and it's a showcasing of a more pop oriented direction that Every Open Eye as an album was quite a lighter take then The Bones of What You Believe which isn't a bad thing because it's still a solidly good effort that yielded a shit load of quality live tracks and a band that's honestly putting on a much better show then the year before.

These guy's really had one hell of year and I can only hope that they continue this trend of quality singles and albums.

5 Years 5 Albums: Day 5

The Bones of What You Believe-CHVRCHES (2013)

In all honesty in the 5 years since I started writing song of the day I’d honestly have to say this is probably the most solidly strong debut album I’ve heard since starting this and it’s really quite interesting to think about because it’s the pure solid New Wave sound with plenty of polished strongly sang tunes and Lauren Mayberry’s kind of pixy tones that kind of lead me to just get utterly absorbed into an album that’s really a lot like Depeche Mode but more modernized and with even less organic instrumentation.

I really do love this album quite a bit people and the fact that the songs kind of range from slightly dark dance tracks to just complete bangers gives you a good variety pack to kind of enjoy no matter what your mindset is and it really is an album that you find yourself coming back to again and again to only remind yourself just how fucking good it really is and even now trying my best to put into words just what’s so good about it I’m just reminded of the times and places I’ve gone and had been with each song good and bad it’s all something that really gets me thinking.

Also on a lesser note these guy’s put on an amazing show and Lauren Mayberry is a Pixy voiced goddess amongst women.

This may be last choice in my 5 years and 5 albums but stay tuned Sunday for a special post regarding the 5th year anniversary but until then it’s been a pretty bad ass 5 years and this album is just another example of what it’s resulted in.

Sam's Top 20 of 2013: #1

1 “The Mother We Share,” Chvrches

OK I bet that not a damn person saw this one coming yes the best song of the year the tune that I thought was the best jam to come out all year belongs to this group of Scottish new wavers in the form of Chvrches and you know what I regret NOTHING!

OK in all seriousness while looking back I love songs that are organic and that are heavy in real instruments I can’t help but you know be taken back by what’s probably the cutest pixy voiced singer I’ve seen since Kimbra and honestly the most awesomely new-wavy kind of 80’s throwback jam that’s heavily reminiscent of Depeche Mode, Blondie, Kraftwerk, and bands of that time it’s a cleverly disguised alternative rock song with a very pop vibe and heavy HEAVY use of synthesizers and looping machines that I’m not normally one for but the fact that this is such a commanding little number that throws it at ya with all forces you can’t help but sit back, turn up your radio, and realize you’re listening to something so wonderfully awesome that there’s nothing else on the radio that could make life feel so awesome at that very second.

So if that doesn’t convince you enough as to why this is the best song to come along this year then well go make your own list, but in all seriousness these where my personal picks of the top 20 songs of the year so many great songs came along and just kicked ass that I’m surprised I didn’t post that much but hey that’s just the way the cookie crumbles thanks for reading and stay tuned for more songs of the day.
