Song of the Day 1-12-19

Black Soap-Ex Cops

You know I haven't done this in a hot fucking minute mother fuckers and as I'm making dinner listening to a YouTube feed of videos this song came up and I'm going to have to be honest with you this song is a FUCKING BANGER!

A slow start and some cooler than cool mildly new wave inspired guitar work with a heavy Joy Division tone you get this cooler than cool feeling that you're about to really listen to something tight just before Amalie Bruun's vocals kick in and you get something that's a little bit Shirley Manson esque and rather inviting before she just wallops you in the face with the chorus and it's exclamations about going to the city and drying your eyes you're instantly hooked on a tune that's very reminiscent of it's time in alternative music where bands like Metric where the rage and in some way it still feels like it'd fit in today's landscape.

This was rather high up there on that years best of list but I remember just kind of forgetting all about it for quite a while afterwards until I was going back through all my songs to write up about for these end of day's post and this song came up and yeah it's still probably more so now fucking fantastic and if you haven't heard it fix that RIGHT FUCKING NOW!

Sam's Top 20 of 2014: #8

8. Ex Cops-Black Soap

So I’m not going to lie this song kind of came out of nowhere really and I’m kind of glad that it has because it’s the coolest fucking tune people. It’s a lot like a Sonic Youth tune with a very driving guitar rift and a strong female lead before kind of erupting into a very VERY 90’s early alternative chorus that just kind of takes hold and completely sells you on the song right then and there on the spot before kind of introducing a shorter male part to keep things from getting too dreamy.

Overall the exact idea of a good indie rock tune but without all the pretentiousness that plagues the rest of the genre and something that’s all over good…

Song of the Day 11/4/14

Halloween was a semi-uneventful event for me but that's not really all that important because it's a new month and a new week of songs for you guy's so let's quit with all the small talk and get to today's amusing little cut courtesy of Ex Cops.

Black Soap it's a very rocking little cut with one hell of a chorus that is slightly reminiscent of an act like Sonic Youth with it's very strong early alternative sound and the fact that the verses partway through introduce a male vocalist who's partly deep but not trying to be much a singer.

Overall this song is a great alternative rock cut that I find to get better and  better every listening...
